"I have stayed at this hotel since 2010 and previously wrote a great review. However, they have started asking for a deposit when you make a reservation, and the last 2 times I stayed there I realized (too late) that they did not apply the deposit to my bill when I checked out! When I asked the management to refund my deposit by showing them the receipts, they refused. They claim that even though the receipt does not show the deposit, that they deducted it from the amount I paid, which is not true. No reputable hotel would leave a credit paid off the bill. Unfortunately, I no longer recommend this place and I caution anyone who stays there to be very careful about paying deposits!"

"Superb setting on the banks of the Casamance river. Here you can escape immersed between the water of the river and the magnificent wooded garden. The sweetness of Casamance life. Our 2 connecting rooms were very good, and the hotel service was very professional and friendly. On the restaurant side, the service is more appropriate depending on the people who take care of you. The grilled chicken and shrimp skewers were very good but what a slow service, even though we were only 2 tables in total for 3 or 4 servers!!! We spent two hours at the table for a main course and a dessert! You must therefore let yourself be carried away by the flow of the river and forget time, like the waiters forget you."

"The rooms are clearly in need of renovation. There was either some (intermittent or very little) or no (running) water. This was supposedly the fault of the water company, but it later turned out that they do have a water tank, but it's running dry due to a problem. At the very least, make sure there's a water supply for your guests. As is the case everywhere in Gambia, this could be a bucket of water for a bucket shower. Waiting for guests to report the (known) problem is not customer-friendly. The dinner we ordered was initially unavailable, but later it was, but it was undercooked and tasteless. The location is beautiful, the staff friendly, but the rooms are disappointing. The price-quality ratio is below par."

"What a lovely place. I cannot recommend highly enough. We were a small group working with a local high school and we felt truly welcomed like family here. A tranquil location operated by a warm local family. Tamba Kuruba will always have a place in my heart."

"It was our first time visiting Gambia with a friend who comes out every year. We couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay for our first week. The accommodation is great, the location is stunning, food is lovely but it’s the staff who make it such a great place. They are friendly, attentive and just looked out for us in general. "Woodpecker is close to the airport and I've always passed it but not stopped to see what it's like. This year I met a friend there for a meal and the food and service was good. Had good range of options from local dishes to more Euro/American dishes."
